HOLLEY: Smile.

I have a six-month-old daughter. Her name is Riley.

She's been the best thing to ever happen to me. At the very beginning of my pregnancy, the first couple of weeks went very well, and then the nausea and vomiting started.

I was a labor and delivery nurse, and it was just very hard for me to realize that I needed to ask for help, that it wasn't just morning sickness.

I cried a lot. The nausea was just so overwhelming.

Just one smell would just set me off, and then I would be throwing up for the next hour. It was just a constant all-day sickness.

JENNI: My name is Jenni, and I'm an Optum OB homecare nurse. I see patients from one end of the state to the other.

It's important because in these rural settings, they don't have clear access to some of these hospitals.

By prescribing our services, we help the provider by being an extension to their offices.  

[Knocking]

JENNI: Hey, Holley.  

HOLLEY: Hi.  

JENNI: I'm Jenni.  

HOLLEY: Nice to meet you. Come on in.  

JENNI: Thank you.

HOLLEY: She set me up with an infusion pump, to where I could get relief of my nausea long-term and not having to worry about the constant back and forth to the ER.  

[Jenni setting up the Avoset pump equipment and talking to Holley in her kitchen] 

JENNI: Hopefully, we're going to get you feeling better once we get this Avoset pump started for your nausea.  

HOLLEY: It took a lot of pressure off of me without having to feel like I needed to go to another doctor's appointment or go to another facility to get treatment. It was very easy to go back to my daily routine. I was able to put the pump in my little fanny pack that Optum provided for me. It kind of prepared me for having a baby.

JENNI: The care in the home is life-changing for these women. They also have nurses available to them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The patient is also called by those nurses. They have a whole care team behind them. Optum is following up if their medication's not working, if the patient needs more meds, if there's concerns.

So this right here twists and pulls off. So go ahead and twist and pull. There you go. Perfect.  

HOLLEY: Being a mom has been the best thing for me, the best thing to ever happen to me.

JENNI: I fell in love with Holley. I actually got Holley to come work for us.

HOLLEY: And I am now able to set patients up with their own Avoset pumps and IVs.

I feel like I'm making such a difference in other pregnant women's lives.

I can be there for them, and then I get to come home with my baby.
