Meet an Optum senior care nurse practitioner: A day in the life

STEFFANI: Everyone here who has Optum can't wait to see Sarah every day.

SARAH: My name's Sarah, and I'm a nurse practitioner with Optum. I go to long-term care facilities,

and I help treat in place, assessing patients, coming up with a plan of care.

RICHARD TAYLOR: What I love about Sarah is the amount of time that she spends with our residents.

LINDA: She knows. She listens. She's prepared to answer your questions and to offer solutions.

SARAH: I know the people that sleep late. I know the people that go outside. I know the people that are always at bingo, and if they're not at bingo, something's wrong.

RICHARD TAYLOR: Having Sarah in the building, we can catch those subtle declines and start treatment plans to prevent those hospitalizations.

STEFFANI: She's wonderful. She is just wonderful. She saved my life a couple of times. I get pneumonia quite a bit, and she's caught it every time.

BRENDA SCHMIDT: She's brought an advanced level of skill to our nurses.

It's comforting for them to know that there's a nurse practitioner that they can bounce questions off of.

SARAH: In this role, I'm so lucky. I really get that hands on piece of nursing care that is so fulfilling for me.

BRUCE KLEIN: Probably the biggest difference I notice with Optum in the building is a layer and a sense of more security for a lot of our residents.

LAURIE: Sarah's been wonderful to us. She's been there, and not only for Jonathan, but also for me, and that's very reassuring to a parent.

We were able to take a trip for the first time in probably 15 years or more, that I felt like if we were gone for a two-week period, he would be okay. [Text Wrapping Break]

SARAH: I have really great relationships with all of my residents. They know that I care. They know that I talk to their families and the Delmar Gardens staff. So they know that everybody is involved and cares.

RICHARD TAYLOR: Delmar Gardens' philosophy is love, care, and understanding. And I truly believe that Optum and Sarah fit right into that mold.
