Global Nurse Advice Line

2-minute read

Supporting mission-critical programs for federal health agencies

Optum Serve is proud to support the Military Health System (MHS) Global Nurse Advice Line (GNAL) mission of providing timely access to healthcare services to beneficiaries. These 9 million individuals include eligible active-duty Service Members, their families and retirees.

Through DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System), the system can automate eligibility validation in real time. Beneficiaries also enjoy 24/7/365 access to omnichannel, mobile-friendly virtual care including physician visits.

By partnering with MHS, Optum Serve provides:

  • 30 seconds or less access — Beneficiaries can reach a nurse directly for advice or a care coordinator for customer service.
  • Appointments — After RN triage, care coordinators can make acute care appointments with their PCMH in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF). They can also assist in locating an MTF, network urgent care or emergency room.
  • Follow-up information — In near real-time, the beneficiary’s MTF PCMH can review the encounter notes and audio recording. The patient can also review the advice on the patient portal.

Optum Serve is the federal health services business of Optum and UnitedHealth Group.
