A drug formulary is a list of medications, including generic and brand names, available to members under their prescription drug benefit. Drug formularies may also be referred to as preferred drug lists or drug lists. These may include generic drugs, brand drugs and specialty medications. These formulary documents represent efforts to provide physicians, pharmacists, health professionals and members with a method to evaluate the safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of commercially available drug products. Drugs considered for the formulary are evaluated and are chosen for their safety and effectiveness and intended to be used as a guide to assist our members and health practitioners in selecting cost-effective drug therapy.
